What to Bring to Your Immigration Physical Exam

In order to prepare for your visit, you'll need to gather up certain information and paperwork. Some of this documentation includes:

  • Photo ID: This could be a passport, driver's license, state ID, birth certificate, green card, or military ID card
  • Medical and immunization records if available
  • Your alien registration number if you have one
  • Form I-693 completed to the best of your ability

Medical Exam for Immigration: What to Expect

The immigration physical will begin with a detailed discussion of your medical history. Your doctor can also help you complete any areas on Form I-693 that you may have questions about. Other steps of the immigration physical include:

  • Physical exam
  • Mental status evaluation
  • Blood testing for syphilis, also known as an RPR test (rapid plasma reagin)
  • TB (tuberculin) skin testing
  • USCIS required immunizations

Before any vaccinations are administered, a blood test may be performed to determine what diseases you already have immunity to. Some of the illnesses tested for include:

  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
  • Varicella
  • Polio
  • Hepatitis B
  • Tetanus

Once your examination has been completed, and all necessary vaccinations have been administered, you will receive a sealed envelope containing your I-693 form and any other medical records that are required. This envelope should be returned unopened to the Department Of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services.
